Mexico 2020:
Coba
As part of a day trip from Playa, we visited Coba. Simplistically, Coba is just another group of Mayan ruins. The reason I added it to our itinerary and was so exited about going though is that it's the only temple you can actually climb....usually.
There's more to the site than just the main temple. There are ball courts, roadways, and other structures that Joel covered with us at each stop. I was a little more interested in just playing around at this point in the day than getting the full history lesson, but Joel knows his stuff and made it fun.
It's a cool site. In spite of the weather and the very disappointing ban on climbing, it was a fun stop and felt more like an activity than just looking at ruins.
Climbing Coba would have been the cherry on the top of a fun day. To be fair though, it was sketchy looking and would have been tricky when it was dry. My sometimes accident prone wife might have met her doom scaling this thing in the wet.....and the husband is always the prime suspect.
