Guest House Construction: Part 21

Branelle inspecting trim paint.

Since we're entering the home stretch (pun intended), I said I would start updating weekly.  This week we made some progress in three major areas.  The first was interior paint.  Our pain crew has been really good.  They got a lot done last week and were out there Saturday and Sunday as well and they're getting close to finishing up.

There was a slight mix-up with the wall colors.  I had given them a swatch of the paint we had selected for the interior walls.  I went out and checked their progress on Friday and it looked a lot darker than anticipated so I checked the cans and sure enough it was the wrong color.  They had gotten the swatch from the accent color for our outside mixed up with the one for the interior.  They had already painted nearly the entire upstairs, but they said they could just use the darker color as primer and finish it with the correct color.  This is the correct color pictured here:  "Bungalow Beige".  The paint crew should finish up what they can do now in a day or two this week.

The second big step was that we finally got some utility work done.  You have to hook up electric, gas, water, and sewer all to the house and so far none of that had been done.  Finally starting on this was necessitated by the fact that the pool guys are about ready to pour our patio slabs and this needed to go in first.

It took a few days and it was a lot of both intensive labor and meticulous measuring, but it is done.  Now the pool guys can get back to setting the forms we had to tear out.

The third area of progress has been on the porch extension.  The framing crew came out and tore into our existing roof and framed up the new porch section. They got a lot done on Friday and the weather looks good so they should finish up before we have any rain issues....I hope.

They'll be connecting the porch to the guest house via covered walkway. There's still a long way to go, but we certainly have ramped up the activity around here.
