Ecuador 2022: The Road to Guayaquil

Ecuador 2022:

The Road to Guayaquil

Super short post today. There were a few changes made to our tour in the timeline that were driven by the threat of violence in Ecuador's largest city - Guayaquil. There was a surge of drug and gang related violence in the city leading up to our planned visit, but we still had to go as it was the location for our flight to Galapagos. What the tour company did was keep us distracted and then roll us into Guayaquil late in the evening before our very early flight the next day. It was clever, and worked for the most part. We did venture out from our hotel for dinner, but not much else.

On the way to Guayaquil, we stopped at a local cocoa community to see how chocolate is made in the region.

Of course, they offered to sell us all the chocolate we wanted after our tour, and most of our group obliged.

We parked our bus on the way in right on top of a rather energetic game of futsal ball - basically soccer with a tiny ball. Younger Scott (and fitter - I was in the worst shape of my life on this trip) would have jumped in for sure. Older Scott in this case made the right choice and avoided the pain by walking to the bus.

I told you it would be short. I'll leave you with this shot of the menu at dinner that night. Sometimes things are lost in translation when foreigners try to dumb down for American tourists, and occasionally you get a good chuckle out of it.
