Europe 2019: The Round Tower

Europe 2019

The Round Tower

Copenhagen, Denmark

The appropriately named Round Tower is pretty simple really - it's a tower you can walk all the way to the top of in a circular path and then look out over the city from the top. It was just around the corner from our apartment, maybe a couple minutes walk, so we checked it out after having lunch.

We walked past it many times and this is the only picture I took of the outside apparently. I feel like this is a good time to mention the Copenhagen Card. I ordered them ahead of time for the three adults in our group (Samantha was basically free everywhere). They covered all public transportation and admission to just about every place we went in Copenhagen. It was probably worth it just from a financial aspect, but even if not it was worth it just for the convenience. I highly recommend getting one if you're heading to Copenhagen.

They had this sort of stamp scavenger hunt that Sam really enjoyed. On the way up you looked for stations that would give you clues about buildings that are round all over the world and then you matched the correct location to the stamp. Simple, but kids - or at least mine - love stuff like that.

Other than looking for stamps, you just hike in a circle until you get to the top. It's an interesting building, but there's not really anything special about it. There's a small cafe and gift shop about half way up and some of the most interesting toilets you'll ever see at odd locations.

The views at the top are okay. There aren't really a lot of tall buildings in Copenhagen and this is one of the tallest so you can see everything. This was one of the few days of our entire trip that we didn't have nearly perfect weather so it wasn't quite as nice being up there in the light drizzle, but it was still worth the hike.
