2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra
OK, well this one is at least somewhat interesting. In all honesty I've never really been a big
fan of Mustangs, other than the older classics of course. That said, I have to confess that the only
reason I bought this one was that my girlfriend at the time had an ex that was
a Mustang nut and had an older beater 'Stang' himself. To a Mustang person, the Cobra is Mecca. I couldn't resist and picked this one
up. (I know - it was very petty and childish,
but I guess being competitive with a somewhat warped sense of humor and money
was a bad combination).
This car was in great condition with very low mileage. I never had any problems with it but I didn't
drive it too much either.
The interior was a nice color combo, but generally 'Ford
cheap'. Too much plastic and a dated
dash shape made for an unattractive view.
The real problem I had with the interior was the lack of space. I barely fit in the seat and giving myself
enough leg room meant having to really reach for the shifter. On top of that, it was clunky and had a heavy
clutch.
This is the real reason to buy a Cobra. The supercharged V8 is strong. This car was very quick in a straight line
(doesn't turn at all) and these engines are cheap to tune as well.
Fun
to drive in short bursts, I kept it around until finally selling it to a HUGE
dude from Oklahoma. I picked him up at
the airport and I swear I didn't think he was going to fit in the car. He had plans for it and told me that it would
be a 700-horsepower ride by the end of the month. I would think that a convertible would be a
more enjoyable car and I wouldn't mind trying one out some day, but while the
Cobra is an improvement over the GT, it just doesn't do it for me as an
everyday car or even a weekender.
