Guest House Construction: Part 5

Rain Outs

It's been a couple weeks since my last update on the guest house project here.  Unfortunately, we've basically been in a "rain out" situation.  After months of dry weather, we've had a couple weeks of pretty heavy rain and it caught us at a point that made progress difficult.

When I last posted, we had built forms and set the under-slab plumbing.  Before you can bury it and move on you need an inspection from the city (League City) and apparently it's not something they want to come crawl around in the mud to do - and I don't blame them.  For weeks we basically had a swamp.  I joked that we had put the pool in before the guest house.  We finally got a couple of dry-ish days so our builder came out with a pump and bags of lime.  He worked on it and we were able to get the inspector out on Thursday to give us the go ahead.  In truth, he didn't really look at much, but you need the little sticker to move on.

This morning I awoke to the wonderful sound of reversing heavy equipment (BEEP...BEEP...BEEP...).  A small crew was burying all of the drain lines and smoothing out the remaining dirt.  It's not much, but even a little progress feels great when you haven't seen any for a couple weeks.  The weather still looks iffy, and I understand that we need a dry pad for the next step so it may be a while before "Part 6".

The sticker we were waiting on.
