Gold Canyon Golf Resort

Gold Canyon Golf Resort

Gold Canyon, Arizona

Gold Canyon Golf Resort is located about 30 miles East of Phoenix.  Gold Canyon seems to be a retirement community in the middle of nowhere.  If you’re not used to the desert, you won’t believe that anyone would want to live out there.  The resort has two championship courses, Sidewinder and Dinosaur Mountain.

The flying turf is a testament to the wonderful condition of the course.

The Sidewinder course is not too bad (the greens on the back nine are all crowned-very annoying).  Dinosaur Mountain is easily the more spectacular of the two.  It winds its way through Gold Canyon and offers some amazing views.

Barry and I played here in May of 2000.  We played both courses and pretty much just made a day out of it.  Barry had a nice morning round to beat me on the Sidewinder course.  I, however, rebounded nicely (including an impressive 39 on the back) to dominate the Dinosaur Mountain course.

If you look closely you can see what Barry thought of my afternoon heroics.
