Guest House Construction: Part 17

The guest house continues to move along.  The big step that occurred was that the electric has been roughed in.  There were two guys working three days and four guys working for a couple days but they finished in a week.  There's no power to the house yet, but it's all wired up.

The guys first ran wires everywhere they needed to go and left them loose at both ends.  This is obviously the location of the breaker box in the garage.

Here's the breaker box after they started organizing all the inputs.  I had them beef up the box so we could add things later if we needed to and I also had them run a designated big line for a pool.

There are no light fixtures installed yet, but they did install all of the cans for recessed lights.

It was interesting watching them progress.  The first thing they did even before drilling any holes and running wires was to label the entire house.  They went around marking where everything was going to go.  "UCL" stands for Under Cabinet Lighting.  The "S" would mean a switch, and the "S" with a 3 and a W around it would mean a three way switch, etc...  Interesting, and efficient.

The electricians finished up last Friday, and this week we've had a little activity.  Deliveries are always exciting, no matter how small they are.  In this case we are getting the treated 2x10s that are used around the garage doors.

This was kind of exciting.  These 16 foot 8x8 posts are for the patio extension we are doing on the main house.  Our builder cut holes in the patio for these already and I think they're going to set them pretty soon.

There was an insulation guy out taking measurements this week, but before they can install that stuff they needed the outside doors in place.  Our doors have been sitting in our garage for weeks, but the cornice guys showed up this morning and put them all in.  This is the door leading to the patio from the breakfast area.

This is the front porch.  A couple of interesting things here - you can see how the electricians mount outlets and light fixture mounts through the wall.  This will all be brick, but they have to have the fixtures in place before the brick is set.  The blue wire is for the doorbell.  The door on the left goes into the garage and is also where the pool bath is located.  The brown thing is the front door - or at least where it will be.  They install what they call a "builder's door" during the construction phase and then it will be replaced by whatever front door we pick near the end of the process.

The cornice guys also used that 2x10 that was delivered this week to trim out the garage openings.  I know we are waiting on a couple of inspections, but pending that I believe the next phase is insulation and then drywall?  We'll see.
